Freshminds: error-free picking with a team that changes every season

The challenge

Freshminds produces fresh meals and also handles order picking for Healthy Fridge and a number of other clients. Volume swings hard with the season, and so does the make-up of the picking team.

Much of that team is seasonal and international. Dutch or English is often not their first language. Anyone working from a paper pick list has to recognise product names in a language they do not read well — and with similar-looking products that goes wrong.

When Healthy Fridge reported seeing too many picking errors in its own orders, it was clear that more training and extra checks were not going to fix it. Verification had to happen on the floor, at the moment of picking.

The solution

Freshminds now picks with OrderPiQR on the phones it already had. Every order line is scanned; if someone grabs the wrong item the app blocks the pick immediately and names the product that is actually next.

The picking app is available in seven languages, including Polish and Ukrainian. A new employee logs in with a personal login QR, picks their language and starts straight away. No onboarding session, no paper list to explain.

Because the verification sits in the process rather than in the instructions, it no longer matters whether someone has been there five years or five minutes.
